The Andamans are well-known for their pristine beaches, evergreen forests and exotic fauna. However, you might not know about its rich history and culture and, how the cultural history of the Andamans, is reflected through the art of the local artists. 

For tourists, mainly those who are fascinated by handicrafts might be dazzled by the items showcased in various emporiums of the Andaman Islands.

Sagarika Government Emporium, Port Blair

Located on the MG road, Sagarika Government Emporium is a handicraft hub, exhibiting a variety of handicraft items reflecting the tribal culture of the Andamans. You will find mainly wooden and jute products here like tribal masks, figurines, vases, bags and photo frames. Other items include seashell and pearl jewellery. 

You can take back home these artworks as a souvenir and cherish the times spent in the Andamans.

Aberdeen Bazaar, Port Blair

The Aberdeen Bazaar is famous amongst the locals and also draws tourists from around the world. You will find everything here, from the prettiest pieces of jewellery to the most basic household items, at a very reasonable price. The main inspiration behind the jewellery designs has been the Jarawa tribe - the tribe of the Andaman Islands.

MG Road, Port Blair

The MG Road is probably the most amazing shopping street in the Andamans, lined with a variety of shops. You are likely to find everything here, from eateries serving delicious seafood to emporiums showcasing exquisite creations.

Queen Sea-Shell Craft, Port Blair

As the name suggests, The Queen Sea Shell Craft is a handicraft shop primarily focused on craft created from seashells. Other craftworks include bamboo furniture, coconut carved lamps, seashell-embellished lamps, and seashell jewellery. You can also purchase loose seashells to use as a decorative in your home or probably gift them to your loved ones.

Shiva Handicrafts Emporium, Port Blair

Similar to the Sagarika Government Emporium, this emporium also sells a wide variety of handicraft items, mostly wooden. Other items available here are pearls and conchs.

The bazaars of the Andaman Islands are stunning and appealing in a way that they have blended the tribal culture of the Andamans in a very elegant and exquisite manner. 

The cultural history of the Andamans is now being acknowledged by the world, through the handicrafts. 

Also, bringing to much notice are the materials used by the craftspeople. The materials like wood, coconut shells, bamboo, seashells, and jute, promote an eco-friendly development of the society and must be highly encouraged.
