You will be received at Cochin & then directly transferred to Thekkady – the most popular wild life sanctuary in India. It takes 6 hrs to reach there – Check into the resort – Rest of the day for complete relaxation – Overnight stay at the resort.
At 1200 hrs starts the trek from the departure point. The trekking routes are laid out through the lush evergreen forests of Periyar tiger reserve and most of these are tracks of wild animals or the patrolling routes of anti poaching squads. Normal walking time would be around 04-05 hours to the first camping site, which is 08-10 kms form Thekkady. En route take rest on request and will provide snacks, tea/coffee. One may get a chance to encounter many indigenous birds and mammals like Nilgiri languor, Sambar deer, wild boar, Indian goat, Malabar giant squirrel, elephant, bison etc.
The first campsite would be reached around 1630 hrs and vegetarian lunch may be prepared and served. Accommodation will be in tents pitched by your escorts. The tents are with side openings for safety. The campsite normally is near to water source. Most of the campsites are potential area of wild life, excellent view of lake and surroundings blanketed with evergreen forests. After lunch an hour trek to grasslands to watch wildlife at their feeding around. Back to campsite after a short walk. Dinner will be served at 2000 hrs. Overnight at the Camp.
After a simple breakfast at 0830 hrs, start trekking back through the misty mountains and the orchestra of thousands of beetles and birds. Reach back to the end point around 1100 hrs. Relax till afternoon - enjoy a boat ride through Lake by afternoon to view the wild animals – Back to the resort by evening – Overnight stay at the resort.
Depending up on the train/flight timing, you will be transferred to Kottayam (nearest Rail head) or Cochin for a safe & comfortable return journey.
