Itinerary

Cochin - Munnar - Thekkady Day 1

Day 1

On arrival at Cochin Basil Leaf representative will drive you to your pre-booked hotel.  After some rest set out for local sightseeing in Cochin.

Cochin (Kochi) is spread across islands and promontories in a stunning location between the Arabian Sea and the Backwaters. The city was founded in 1341 when a flood created a natural safe port, which became the principal harbour for Malabar Coast’s spice trade. Cochin was on the main trade route between Europe and China. The rulers invited people of various religions to settle here, attracting the Jews and the Christians who built places of worship and their own communities.

Visit Fort Kochi which is a small village along the Arabian coastline & is famous for the Chinese fishing nets ( though it is nothing to with China), Dutch cemetery, Synagogue & Churches. Later enjoy a beautiful Kathakali performance ( pre-booking is required ). Kathakali literally meaning “Story Dance” is the pantomimic dance drama, the dancing and the acting being blended together into an inseparable form. It is a combination of facial expressions and body movements, which brings out the thought and emotion of the character. Kathakali is predominantly a male art and the dancer never stands erect, his knees being spread out & his legs forming a rhombus. The female character is Lasya which is gentle & grateful.  Evening at leisure.

Cochin - Munnar - Thekkady Day 2

Day 2

After breakfast check out from the hotel and drive to Munnar.    Munnar is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams – Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundala. 1600 m above sea level, this hill station was once the summer resort of the erstwhile British Government in South India. Sprawling tea plantations, picture-book towns, winding lanes and holiday facilities make this a popular resort town. Among the exotic flora found in the forests and grasslands here is the Neelakurinji. This flower that bathes the hills in blue every twelve years, will bloom next in 2030. Munnar also has the highest peak in South India, Anamudi, which towers over 2695 m.

Arrive in Munnar & check in to your pre-booked hotel.   Rest of the day at leisure.

Cochin - Munnar - Thekkady Day 3

Day 3

After breakfast proceed for local sightseeing of Munnar. Start your day taking in the sheer beauty of nature at Photo Point which is a beautiful spot lined up by tea gardens on both sides. Like the name suggests it’s the best place to get your photos & selfies clicked. Next visit the Mattupetty Dam where you can enjoy a boat ride.  Visit Echo Point which is a major tourist attraction in Munnar. Every loud call made from a spot on the lake is returned manifold. Nature walks are popular here with breathtaking views of the hills. From here we proceed towards Kundala Lake. The tea estates around Kundala lake are a real feast for the eye. You can experience a Shikara boat ride in this lake, which would prove a unique experience. Next up is Top Station which is near the Kerala – Tamil Nadu border & is famous for the Neelakurinji plant (Strobilanthes Kunthiana, Family – Acanthaceae) which flowers once every 12 years.

The viewpoint offers breathtakingly beautiful views of Kannan Devan Hills, the valleys & distant waterfalls.
Drive towards Rajamalai/ Eravikulam National Park which is just 16km from Munnar & also extends into Tamil Nadu. It was established to protect the Nilgiri Tahr & is today home to nearly half of the total world population of this rare species.
