Our tour representative will greet you from your flight and take you on a relaxing drive to Munnar. There are plenty of opportunities to pause and drink in the views, rest and admire the beautiful highlights of the scenery, the picturesque Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls and the stunning bridge over the Periyar River. The road will wend its way upwards amongst the gentle, rolling hills, an introductory flavour to the delights that await you at Munar.
Munnar, a hill station resting peacefully at the top of the green, verdant slopes, misty mountain tops sit above it and lush plantations below it in swathes of rich, deep emerald green. Discovered by the British in the days of the Raj as a tea-growing location and a wonderful place to unwind and holiday, Munnar retains a quaint and peaceful atmosphere of times gone by. This terrain offers the perfect opportunities for walking, cycling, riding or boating, something for everyone whether you want a gentle exploration or a mountain adventure. Famed for its exotic birdlife and plantation crops of cardamom, tea and coffee, Munnar is an assault on every sense, taste it, smell it, breathe in the clear, cool air.
The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is the destination at Thekkady, a huge reserve and home to many species of animal – tiger, elephants, Indian Gaur, lion-tailed macaques, deer and bison. Visitors like to view the animals from the lake and there are lake cruises available which offer an unobtrusive way to spot different species as they are attracted down to the water to drink. Become an explorer and head into the territory with a native guide. Walk, cycle or horse ride, there are numerous opportunities to enjoy the scenery and the abundant bird and animal life. A luxury resort hotel is your resting place for the night.
A visit to Kerala would be incomplete without a visit to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, a large reserve with a central lake, a focal point for all the animals. Following check out in Munnar, your tour guide will escort you to Periyar National Park and the lake which sits to the north of the Park. Boat rides are a popular way to enjoy this spectacular scenery and offer the perfect vantage point to discretely view the different species of animal, drawn down to the lake to drink. Lion-tailed macaques, elephants and tigers are just some of the wildlife to be found at Periyar. Fall asleep to the sounds of the wild from your hotel room.
After breakfasting in Thekkady, your chauffeur will take you to Alleppey and a magical houseboat cruise on the famous Keralan backwaters. Take a slow boat around the inland waterways, watch local people fishing and making products out of coir. Swaying coconut groves line the water’s edge teeming with exotic birds. All meals are served on board including dinner on deck when you moor for the evening. Take a stroll to one of the local villages before returning to your cabin for the night, to fall asleep under the stars with just the gentle movement of the water to usher you into a peaceful sleep.
After breakfast, transfer by boat and then by road to Marari Beach. Check-in to an independent villa at the Marari Beach. Marari Beach resort is not just the sand and the sea. It's the living environment that surrounds it. The Marari Beach, let us be clear, is not the place for a raucous Beach holiday. There are no real parties here. No noisy water scooter but for those seeking to undo the stress of the city life and experience a completely new place, it is the perfect spot. After lunch in the restaurant, it's time to relax in the Coconut grove. Evening will be engaged in good music. Cooking classes followed by dinner. Overnight at Marari Beach.
Say a fond farewell to Marari and return to Fort Kochi where you can wander the narrow streets of this historic port town before your flight home. There is such a mix of influences here from past colonial days, a legacy from the Dutch, Portuguese and British. Visit St. Francis Church, the largest in India or the Dutch Mattancherry Palace, actually a parting gift from the Portuguese but restored by the Dutch. Wander amongst the portraits and exhibits of the Rajas of Kochi, this Palace was built by the Portuguese in 1555 as a gift to the King of Cochin. There is just time to take in the colourful local shops and charming cafes before your chauffeur will take you back to the airport. Say goodbye to Kerala, always in your heart.
