Kalmar was once one of the most important towns in the Northand we recommend spending some time here before continuing back to Stockholm. The historical past is an integral part of the character of the city. Kalmar Castle, the Old Town and Kvarnholmen tell the tale of mighty Kings and Queens as well as commoners. Traces of the past are found in architecture, cultural artifacts and art as well as in the well- worn cobblestones that pave the streets.
