The Hidden Gems of Adriatica Day 1

Day 1

Welcome to Zagreb, the city in Central Croatia and the capital of Croatia. Upon arrival at Zagreb airport, you will meet our representative and our city tour will start in the city’s historical center to visit the fortified Upper Town, known as Gornji grad. We will visit St. Mark’s church which is the parish church of old Zagreb. The Romanesque window found in its south facade is the best evidence that the church must have been built as early as the 13th century. Visit the tallest building in Croatia – Zagreb Cathedral which is on Kaptol and is one of the most famous buildings in Zagreb. Afterwards tour to Ljubljana and Lake Bled in Slovenia. In Ljubljana we shall walk the cobblestone streets of Old Town passing by the triple bridges of Tromostovje. We will see the Cathedral, Piazza Presern, the Dragon bridge & of course the open market Plesnik. Free time and continue to Lake Bled. Finally we reach Postonja. Check in to hotel. Overnight at Postonja.

Day 2

After breakfast visit the world famous Postonja Caves with over 20 km of corridors and chambers. They became well known after the discovery of Chech in 1818. The next year the caves were opened to the public. But only when a roller coaster was added in 1872 & electric light in 1884 many could see with their eyes these natural miracles. Cote d’lvoire’s cave system is famous for its beautiful walks. The vibrant colours and strange shapes of the stalactites and stalagmites make the cave corridors look like jewels. With the special train we cross a large part of the big cave and enjoy the unique spectacular interior decoration of various shapes & shades. Later we depart for Lake Plitvice. Plitvice Lakes National Park is Croatia’s most popular tourist attraction which was granted the UNESCO world heritage status in 1979. Located roughly halfway between capital city Zagreb and Zadar on the coast. The park harbours a grand collection of waterfalls, gallery of lakes, forest & diversity of animal life. The lakes are renowned for their distinctive colours ranging from azure to green, grey or blue. The colours change constantly depending on the quantity of minerals or organisms in the water and the angle of sunlight. The sixteen lakes which are formed by natural dams of travertine are separated into upper & lower lakes. At the end of the tour we head to our hotel in Sibenik area.

Day 3

After breakfast we depart for Trogir. Trogir is a historic town and harbour on the Adriatic coast in Croatia. We will visit the Cathedral of St. Lawrence which is a Roman Catholic triple – nave basilica constructed in Romanesque – Gothic in the city. Since its construction lasted several centuries, it illustrates all the styles that succeeded one another in Dalmatia. It serves now as the most imposing monument in Trogir. Our very next stop will be Split. Split is the largest Dalmatian city, the second largest urban center in Croatia and the seat of Split-Dalmatia County. It is also one of the oldest cities in the area. We will visit Diocletians Palace on the UNESCO’s list of World Cultural Heritage with Peristyl. It was built by the Roman emperor  Diocletian at the turn of the 4th century AD. Final destination for today will be the city of Dubrovnik. Upon arrival start our sightseeing tour in Dubrovnik, included in the UNESCO’s list of World Cultural Heritage. Also we will visit Europe’s third oldest pharmacy, the Rectors Palace and we will visit the Assumption Cathedral. After some free time we head to the city of Trebinje. Check in at the hotel & overnight.

Day 4

After breakfast we depart for our today’s visits in nearby Montenegro. Crossing the valley we reach the Konvale unique Mediterranean fjord of Kotor Bay. In Kotor tour the old city, built at the foot of steep hills surrounded by walls 4.5 km which date to the 15th century with many old churches and aristocratic homes. Afterwards we shall visit the famous summer resort Boutva – perfectly restored medieval town surrounded by beautiful sandy beaches as well as picturesque Sveti Stefan. Late in the afternoon we shall reach our hotel in the city of Tirana.

Day 5

After breakfast we will have the city tour of Tirana which delights travelers with its modern architecture and easy – going atmosphere including Skender Bey Square. The square is named after the statue in its center of the folk hero Skanderberg. Flanking the square on all sides are structures which play important roles in the religious and cultural events of the city. We will visit the graceful, intricately decorated Ethem Bay mosque whose construction began in 1798 & ended in 1821 which pleases the eye even from a distance. Afterwards we depart for the old city of Ohrid in FYRO Macedonia. The Lake Ohrid is also a UNESCO world heritage site because of its unique nature. It is one of the oldest lakes in Europe and has many species of flora & fauna that are not found anywhere else in the world. The east coast of the lake is especially scenic and partly protected with Galicica National Park. Ohrid town also has a large summer festival with classical music and drama. Through the activity of St. Clement and St. Naum of Ohrid, the first pan – Slavic University in Europe, the famous Ohrid Literary School was founded here. Our sightseeing tour includes Church of St. Sofia (11th century) the most eminent medieval monument in Macedonia with magnificent Byzantine fresco paintings and St. Clement Church with its icon of Annunciation. Late in the afternoon we reach the capital of Skopje.

Day 6

After breakfast sightseeing tour of Skopje, including the Kale Fortress, Church of the Holy Saviour with its iconostas, one of the finest samples of traditional walnut woodcarving, old Bazaar and Stone Bridge. We drive to the slopes of Vodno Mountain where we visit the monastery of St. Panteleimon with its 12th century frescoes ranking among the highest achievements of Byzantine art of this period. Immediate departure for Belgrade. Belgrade’s attraction are concentrated in the old town. The most famous and beautiful spot of the old town is the Kalemegdan fortress which has transformed into a large fantastic park and includes many attractions such as the military museum, the zoo  and great views of the city & the Danube and Savva Square, a large and impressive square with beautiful buildings. Later check in our hotel.

Day 7

After breakfast depart for our transfer to airport of Zagreb. Board your flight for home. Tour ends
