The Oude Church, also known as The Old Church is big and monumental in Amsterdam. It is the oldest parish church and was built as a catholic place to worship. It is Amsterdam’s unique building that expresses the character of Dutch Protestantism. The church is the home to the city’s oldest bells and has quite spacious and elegant interiors.


Be it old and new sects, religious and seculars, coexist at this place. The Oude Church is famous for its architecture and history and the inside space is used for contemporary art exhibitions. The floor of the church is made up of gravestones with fine stained-glass windows. The church holds excellent concerts and acoustics regularly.


The interiors of the church are covered with magnificent paintings of saints. Though it is the oldest building, however, it is the most famous among the tourist and has a great sense of history. You will also enjoy the wonderful view from the top of the building. There are many bookshops and coffee shops to sit and relax.

How to Reach

  • By Train : The nearest railway station is Central Station, you can walk to the church from here. There can be a lot of traffic, therefore try to avoid coming by car.
  • By Car : You can also travel by car and the closest parking area is the Bijenkorf
  • By Bus : Aside from taking a train or a tram, another feasible and most accessible option is to take the bus. You can get down in between and explore around the city.
  • By Flight : From any country in the world, take a flight to Amsterdam airport. From here, you can either hire a bike or a taxi or can take a train to reach the Oude Church.

Dam Square – Take a tour around the Dam Square that lies in the historic center of Amsterdam. You would not need any guide. You can explore this place on your own. 

National Monument – This monument is a must-visit as it is having the important European symbols. This Dutch National monument is a memorial to the Second World War and this architecture is placed in a series of concentric circles, beautifully sculpted with figures of animals and humans.

Central Station – The tourists who visit Amsterdam, do not miss visiting the Central Station which is the hub for transportation in this city. It is the busiest station and blends well n the Neo-Renaissance style architecture.

Magna Plaza – For all the shopping lovers, if you are in Amsterdam you would not want to miss shopping from this plaza. The exterior of the building is made up of heavy bricks and decorated with varied stones, including the door framings and windows. 

Amsterdam Museum – If you are keen to explore the exhibitions and history of medieval times, then this is a place for you. This museum displays the illustrations and artifacts of the rich history of the Netherlands. You will counter a collection of various sculptures, paintings, and archaeological findings, which is spread over three floors. 

Plantage Tour – Take a stroll at this entertaining and restful place, in greenery, calmness, and nature. It has impressive architecture, a historic royal zoo, exotic Hortus Botanicus.

A pity no more dutch reformed services are in place. Hope for some day Reformed values will be the main values of amsterdam again.
