Zangto Pelri is a Buddhist Monastery at the center of Phuentsholing, and Dasho Aku Tongmi built it in 1990. Dasho Aku Tongmi composed the National Anthem for Bhutan.
This beautiful shrine houses the statues of Buddhist Gurus. Some of these idols are as high as 4 meters. It is the tallest monastery of the district Zangto Pelri Lhakhang.
Phuentsholing has the most prominent religious community of the Zangto Pelri Lhakhang. Zangto Pelri Lhakhang is one of the eminent religious communities in the lovely kingdom and interacts with the heavenly house Guru Padmasambhava.

Zangto Pelri means 'celestial abode of Guru Rinpoche.' It is a replica or reproduction of Guru Rinpoche’s heavenly home and known as the heaven of Guru Rimpoche. It is a fun activity to learn about different religions and cultures apart from getting in-depth knowledge about the legend and historical records of Bhutanese monasteries.
This monastery presents an exquisite example of the ancient architecture of Bhutan. Its ground level is home to the eight life-size statues of different manifestations of Guru Rinpoche. These manifestations are the principal forms that Guru assumed at different points in his life.
The second-floor houses eight Bodhisattvas and statues of Avalokiteshwara and Zhubdrung Ngawang Namgyal. You will see a beautiful idol of Amitabha Buddha on the topmost floor. A huge ball fountain, a small pond, and prayer wheels adorn the beautiful park.
Fascinating paintings and beautiful statues flaunt Bhutanese craftsmanship in this three-storied monastery. Guru Padmasambhava and other great saints of Bhutan have their paintings and murals on the Lhakhang walls. The paintings depict the life of Buddha.
The remarkable design of dzong and cloisters gives Bhutanese the reason to take pride in their social legacy and craftsmanship. This masterfulness is evident to all tourists during their visit to Zangto Pelri Lhakhang. While digging the foundation, an elephant skull in a box was found here.

The surrounding garden is pleasant, and the pilgrims spend time on a balmy evening. The gates of the park give a warm welcome to the tourists. Inside, visitors behold flower gardens and fountains.
The rotating prayer wheels generate a tinkling sound that works as a therapy to soothe the ears and the mind. It sends their prayers spiraling up into the heavens. The ambiance is delightful.

Morning hours during the prayer time is the best time to visit the monastery. The shrine stays open for the outsider from 8 am to 6 pm daily.
Weather is pleasant from April to June, with temperatures ranging between 25 to 30°C and blooming a variety of flowers. Weather is neither cold nor hot with a moderate wind from September to November (autumn). These are good times to visit. From June to August, the area receives plenty of rainfall and temperature soar up to 37°C during summer. Winters (December- February) are extreme, so winter is not a good time to visit.

Zangto Pelri Lhakhang is close to the Bhutan-India gate adjoined with a park in the heart of Phuntsholing. It is right in front of the Tashi telecom office. Hotels, the immigration office, and the bus station are nearby. It is in the southwest of the weekend market.
