A dutch built structure that has been maintained well by the government. Entry fee is minimal and camera fees are not charged. On of the first rooms you go to has a whole room of paintings from the epic Ramayana. That is the only part where pictures cannot be taken. Other than that pictures can be clicked. Please be considerate and do not use flash as that might degrade the relics

Beautiful palace. Hard to access due to steep steps. Well maintained and the crowd is good. The lighting and the ventilation is also well maintained. The staff is helpful and navigation within the palace is easy. The ancient low doors are braced with cushions.

The trip to Mattancherry was by the local ferry which my children truly enjoyed. The palace does not have a great exterior but internally it's awesome. The artefacts, the murals based on stories from Hinduism and the paintings of royalty resonate the grandeur of the bygone era. The staff speak Malayalam and not well versed with English but we're very helpful and tried their best.
