Meeru Island




Meeru Island is famous by the name Meerufenfushi. The island is particularly formed above the peaks that are emerging from ocean depths. Above is a layer of both dead and living coral and other remnants of marine life. The island is towered with coconut palms above which there are some hardy plants and dead shrubs that act as a protection of the shores from any kind of erosion and other natural features. The island measures 1200 meters long and 350 meters wide. 

Meeru Island offers a bunch of interesting activities that can make your trip even more adventurous yet beautiful. Some of the activities include excursions and sports in the sea, on-air and even on land. Therefore, staying in Meeru is incomplete without discovering the underwater world and colourful marine life. Renting a bicycle and riding it, perfecting your golf swing are some, sweating out at tennis court, are some of the entertaining factors for which Meeru Island is famous.   • By Air : Male International Airport (MLE) is the only airport that is connecting the Maldives with all major countries in India, Sri Lanka, and china. Direct flights are available from Dubai, Singapore.
  • By Speedboat: : You can also go to Meeru island from the Maldives via Speedboat.

Interesting things to do in Meeru Island

Snorkelling: This is one of the most attractive things that people prefer to participate in. Snorkelling allows you to swim with beautiful tropical fish which is at a small distance from the beach. 


Scuba Diving: Surrounded by a beautiful and big lagoon, Meeru Island is perfect for scuba diving. The lagoon is the house of a variety of marine life and colourful fish in shallow water. Performing scuba diving here allows you to glide through the deep blue waters and explore the aquatic world. 


Water Sports: Besides, scuba diving and snorkelling there are various other interesting water sports that visitors enjoy. Glass bottom boat, catamaran, windsurfing, etc are some of the water sports. The types of equipment are also available in rent at any sports centre. However, water sports are performed based on weather conditions.


Excursions: There is a large variety of excursions available in Meeru Island. They are available in long trips, half-day trips which you can choose according to your requirement.

Meeru Island is situated on the easternmost tip of Kaafu Atoll in the Maldives. Rather it can also be said that it is located somewhere in the south-west of Sri Lanka, which is 50km from the capital of Male.
The Maldives is an independent island country located in the north-central Indian Ocean. This place is compelled with 1200 small coral island that is grouped in atolls and clusters.
