Overview

If you are visiting Haridwar and Rishikesh, the two sacred places of worship for Hindus, then you must visit Lakshman Jhula which is situated in Rishikesh. Ganga looks very beautiful from here & which is why the bridge is an iconic landmark of Rishikesh.

There are two suspensions Bridges in Rishikesh, one is Ram Jhula and the second is Lakshman Jhula. Like Ram Jhula, no bikes are allowed on this bridge, thus making it most attractive for tourists as they cross the bridge by walking. Either you are crossing the river or you are having a view of the bridge from far away, both are just amazing.  

 

 

Historical Importance

Built in 1923, this 137-meter footbridge is an essential way of pedestrian traffic across the Ganga. It is located around 5 Km from the main city. As per some old stories, Lord Ram crossed the river Ganga at this place with the help of Ropes along with his Younger Brother, Lakshman. Later Iron Bridge is constructed by one businessman called Surajmal Jhuhanubula.

The main bridge is mainly famous for its iconic structure and heart soothing view of River Ganga. You will just feel the religious relevance of this place once you decided to visit. Many activities like Sadhus sitting, monkeys playing, people worshiping goes on at the bridge at the same time.

  • By Train : The railway station closest to go to Laxman Jhula is Rishikesh railway station. It is only 3 km away from Laxman Jhula. Cabs are easily available at the Railway Station for providing quick transportation service to Laxman Jhula.
  • By Flight : The airport closest to Laxman Jhula is Jolly Grant Airport. The distance between Laxman Jhula and Jolly Grant Airport is 21.7 km. You can take a cab to reach Laxman Jhula.

Viewing majestic Ganga: There is no other place than this place to view river Ganga. You will be crossing the river and river flowing in full swing down under. Just imagine. The sound of water running down will make your heart beat faster and faster. You will feel the river. 

Visiting in Night: The night time is the best time to be on the bridge. The temperature will be down. There will be no sun shining on the head. In the night, visitor's numbers will also be less, so you can spend more time enjoying the view. Nearby villages, Mountains, and River Ganga, all will make your time more experiencing. 

Nature Walk: This Bridge connects villages of two districts located in Tehri Garhwal and Pauri Garhwal district. Just leave your place of stay early in the morning, with plenty of water and some eatables. Start exploring the natural environment nearby this place.
