HISTORY OF TEMPLE

Kedarnath Temple is situated on the banks of the Mandakini River, 223 km from Rishikesh, situated at an elevation of about 3,583 meters above sea level.

Adi Shankaracharya restored the temple in 8th century AD. Kedarnath Dham Temple is located in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state, it is the largest Shiv temple in the entire state! | The brownstone blocks have been used in the construction of this temple. The temple is built on a 6 feet high platform. The natural beauty of the Kedarnath Temple can be gauged from the fact that this temple is surrounded by mountains about 22 thousand feet high from three directions. So that the natural hue mesmerizes the beauty that the river passing through the guard of the temple of Kedarnath makes its moon in its beauty.

Kedarnath temple is also the confluence of five rivers. Among which Mandakini, Madhuganga, Kshirganga, Saraswati, and Swarna Gauri are prominent. According to the legend, by bathing in these rivers, man gets freedom from all sins. In the Kedarnath temple, the figure of the back of Shankar bull is worshiped as a body. According to the legend, the shape of Lord Shiva was established as a body in five directions. Kedarnath is also known as Panch Kedarnath because of Shiva's presence in the main Rudranath at Tungnath at Nubhimadeshwar and Jatakalpeshwar.

How to Reach

  • By Jeep/Car: : Kedarnath temple can be reached directly by road and one has to reach a height of 14 km from Gauri Kund. You will have to hire a local jeep till Gauri Kund. Jeep Rs 2500 per day, Innova: Rs 3200 per day, Bolero: Rs 2700 per day. You can get the instrument at an approximate rate.
  • By Air: : If you want to travel by air, your nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is 239 km away., As Kedarnath has no airport of its own and taxis can be hired from outside the airport.
  • By Bus: : Once in Dehradun, you can take a bus to Kedarnath. There are a lot of options to choose from such as A / C sleeper, Non-A / C sleeper, Volvo A / C, Volvo A / C, and Semi-sleeper buses.
  • By Train: : If you want to travel by train then the nearest railway station for you is in Rishikesh which is 221 km away. And the bus has to be taken to reach Kedarnath.
