Overview

Located at a distance of less than 6 km from the main city area, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. In detail, this temple is called Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple. This place derives its name because water droplets continuously drop on the Shiv Linga. The Environment at the temple is peaceful and many Sadhus can be seen meditating. There is another Shiv Linga nearby covered with Rudraksha. Temple Premises is divided into two parts by River, connected by an iron bridge. Wishes to explore more follow below:

 

 

Historical Importance

One of the oldest and famous temples in Uttrakhand state, Many believes are related to this temple. One of the best discussed believe is regarding the period of Mahabharata. It is believed that Guru Dronacharya (Teacher of Pandavas and Kauravas) worshipped Lord Shiva during the Mahabharata period at this temple.

There are very few places where natural Shiv Linga is found. This temple is one of them. Constant water dripping on the Shiv Linga is another attraction. A peaceful environment in between the busy city of Dehradun attracts tourists here.

The temple is around 50-60 stairs down the road. Also, a visitor has to bend and walk a bit through the cave to see the actual Shiv Linga. Therefore, People who have back or spinal problems should avoid visiting. Wear clothes intelligently as this is a religious place. Put the Phone on silent mode or switch it off when in the main temple.

  • Viewing Shiv Temple: Lord Madadev Past, Present, and Future of all the living beings. One of the first things to do here is to take the blessing of Lord Shiva. To meet Lord Shiva, you may need to travel in the cave Benting your waist. The aura near the Shiv Linga is just beyond imagination. 
  • Spring fair: This annual fair on the occasion of Mahashivratri invites lots of tourists from around the world. It lasts for around 10-12 days to mark the importance of Mahadev. Various attractions can be enjoyed during the fair. 
  • Enjoying Tamsa River water flowing: There is also a small River passing in between temple called Tamsa. You can enjoy its flowing near the temple. 
  • Shopping and visiting other religious sites nearby: The temple is also very attractive for shopping religious books/idols/household things and other items. It is enjoyable. There is also a Vaishno Devi Temple across the river and a huge statue of Lord Hanuman.
